Quick Change Artist

I am always amazed at those of you who get those runs in during your lunch breaks.
There isn't anyway I could go from this....

to this in less than 30 minutes.
...(ok not much improvement but I smell better!)

I have been enjoying a wake up run everyday this week.  I LOVE starting my day with a quick run.  Even after getting up in the middle of the night with the littlest and feeling tired when I hear my alarm go off, that morning run can turn it all around.

Tonight I will be hitting the treadmill for some serious miles. (littlest willing)  There is an outside chance that we may be able to hit the ROAD instead but I am keeping it flexible so I am not disappointed.  I can mentally mess myself up if I concretely make plans in my mind and then they get changed.
I might end up just NOT running at all.
FAIL!

How do you deal mentally with having to change your running plans?  Do you allow changes to keep you from running?

Amanda at Run to the Finish is having a great Giveaway!  Don't miss it!

  1. Look at you Houdini! Have fun on your treadmill tonight. I thought about you while I was suffering through my 8 miles on the 'mill last night. I just kept telling myself, Shelly goes way longer. I can do this!

  2. I am amazed by your fortitude. I have two young ones myself and whenever I have a bad night I sluff off any intention I had in getting up early to go for a run or do a workout. Reading your post gives me incentive to try harder. Great work!

  3. I try not to ever let a change of plans keep me from running. The distance might change, but I almost always get some type of run in. I try to tell myself that "something is better than nothing." The longest distance I've ever been on a treadmill is 6 miles. I usually mix some elliptical or stationary bike in with it.

  4. I try to keep a schedule - sometimes that might mean I have to run early or later, but I try to give myself some me time. I do have to improvise in terms of mileage or location.

    Love the haircut photos!

  5. Hope you're able to fit it all in tonight. Multi tasking with the kids is hard. I've realized if I have to stop for them, I have to stop. I either try to split it up and do a double or just stop fifty million times. You eventually get it all in.

  6. You are soooo pretty :). It's so rare we see each other, even in blog pics, in anything other than running attire and ponytails so I love this picture! I'm not one to ask right now about mentally changing plans - I'm a total mess. And not in a good mental way ... or physical for that matter! ugh. Hope you get in a great run tonight!!! xoxo

  7. You are a strong woman! I set my alarm this morning for 3:45 in hopes I could get my run in before work since I have a really long day today - but that alarm went off and I didn't get up! Looks like I will be hitting the dreadmill tonight some where around 8:30 :(
I just really work on staying positive and allow myself to roll with the punches - otherwise I too, would end up not running! Happy Wednesday!

  8. I channelled my inner-Shelley today and got up early for a run! It was hard to crawl out of my cozy bed but once I got out there in the quiet and dark morning, it was the best thing ever!

  9. I go through different times: Sometimes I seem to be able to get my runs in no matter what kind of roadblocks I encounter; other times, I give up rather easily.

  10. I have no idea how people run on their lunch. To complicate things further, I have no lunch break as a SAHM so running then is not an option. I usually get up early so I can run otherwise something gets in the way.

  12. I don't know how you manage the mornings. I think I managed ONE last week for the first time in about forever.

As far as planning runs, I try to have a "pencilled in" plan at the beginning of the week. Then, as stuff comes up, I shove my runs around as needed. I've gotten pretty good at going with the flow.

  14. if i follow a strict plan and end up having to change things around i usually freak out. if i make up my own plan and just go with the flow, i'm usually okay. for my next marathon im just gonna roll with it and see how things go. :)

  15. I love early morning runs too. I try to be flexible when my plans change... I am not very good at it, yet.
