It was raining again after work. The clouds were low and threatening but I didn't let that stop me. Little Bug-man and I hit the road for finish our miles for the day. It was so hot but like a crazy person I over-dressed and not only got soaked from the rain but from all the sweat. In my rushing to beat the thunderstorms, I left on my glasses. Not fun to run in the rain with glasses on!
Can you see the road behind me? That is a hill. It's the flatter of the two big hills on my 6.5 mile loop. A 4 - 5% grade. The first hill where I should have remembered to take the picture! is a 6+% grade. Ouch! My legs were not very speedy on this run. Although I enjoyed getting to run in the rain, my legs didn't have much "push" in them.
6.5 miles (54:08) the slowest I have run this loop in a while. The upside 10 miles in for the week, a 10 mile trail race on Saturday so 30 miles to squeeze in between now and then if I'm going to hit 50 this week.
Till I got out to take an after the run picture it was already pitch dark and storming. I ditched the glasses since they were water speckled anyway.
It's a big week. Soccer practice and pictures on Tuesday, we close on the VA house this Thursday, Trail 10 miler early Saturday a.m., race back for a 12:00 soccer game Saturday and then off to the VA house to clean and get hubbs settled while some work is done on the house. Looks like a challenge to fit it all in. Maybe I should scale back the mileage goals to 40 this week? What do you think?
Do you change your running goals when life gets busier or do you just see it as an opportunity to challenge yourself?

Barefoot Angie Bee is hosting a Whooha Giveaway. What's a Whooha? A great company started by two women, Amy and Julie both into fitness just like most of us. They came together to create a company for Women Having Optimistic Objectives and Healthy Attitudes. Cool, huh?
So now you are curious. Go click the link and tell Angie I sent you!
You are a brave woman! Thunderstorms kinda freak me out to put it mildly.
ReplyDeleteI say shoot for 50 but don't be disappointed if it turns out to be only 40 :)
Great link to the giveaway!!
Holy hills! You are totally hitting 50 this week! Good luck with everything. Hope the closing goes well!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe it is already time for you to close on the house! It seems like you were just mentioning it here. As for goals and life changes - I usually give myself a week or two of leeway so that we can adjust to the new schedule. I still run and I try to get it all in, but if it doesn't happen I don't beat myself up over it. By the end of the second week I usually have it figured out and can fit it all back in again (well, most of the time I can).
ReplyDeleteGo ahead & shoot for your 50 miles goal but just be prepared if you can really only end up getting in 40. Don't overstretch yourself.
ReplyDeleteI think it's fine to scale back when life gets in the way...it's probably smart! Once you've decided, just go with your decision and don't beat yourself up about it.
ReplyDeleteI usually *try* to squeeze in all the miles even when life is busy... but let's face it, you're a busy mom and your "busy" is a lot moreso than mine. :)
ReplyDeleteGood luck this week!
Thanks for the comment on my blog. What you said gave me pause...I thought about it and updated my post a little. FWIW, my closest family lives 1,200 miles away so face-to-face updates aren't a common place for me.
ReplyDeleteGood luck this week! You are a busy woman, but if anyone can survive and be successful - it's you!
ReplyDeleteOh, and I can't run with my glasses either, so I always am running blind if I don't use my Rx sunglasses :)
Wow your week is crazy! Congrats on the VA house, we'll have to figure out a meet up when you get down here.
ReplyDeleteDuring our last move (almost three years ago) I was training for my first marathon. I look back now and wonder how I fit in all those miles and still managed to pack up a house and move and all the stuff in between. Of course, I don't think I was doing 50 miles a week either! :) I always do my runs in the early mornings so they are over before the craziness of the day begins!
ReplyDeleteHope all goes well with your closing and move!
Judi :)
My son has to wear his glasses when he runs and bikes. I really worry about the days he gets caught off guard, is into the rain, and his visibility.
ReplyDeleteI have to readjust my running goals for life. Sometimes, things just get in the way.
