Since I've Been Away

It's been nearly a month since I last posted.  You may wonder what I've been up to.  Since it has been such a long time the only way to handle it was, you guessed it, a photo update.

Since we last visited I have...

Made these amazing treats

I've served snow cones at S'ghetti Girl's middle school fun night

Rocked out while we decorated our little tree in Virginia

made salt dough ornaments

I've ran a bit.  About 272.7 miles since my last post.
No need to thank me for sparing you from all those self-portraits.

The family and I enjoy seeing some ice sculptures come to life at our home town holiday festival

and we told Santa our wishes.

We got silly and played

We gathered at my sister's house to bake sugar cookies

I finally opened the box and put together
thanks to my better half
my new treadmill

a variation of the pumpkin jars from Halloween.

I got crafty and made jars to give away puppy chow

We got a NEW CAR!
Does anyone know what kind it is?
It deserves it's own post, coming soon.

Hubby and I celebrated our anniversary with a dinner alone.

We enjoyed our traditional Christmas Eve morning cousin's breakfast that my younger sister hosts.
Hubby and I crashed it this year to get to spend more time with the oldest and his GF.

The traditions continued with Christmas eve at my mom's house followed by candle light service and gift opening into the wee hours.

The family and I must have made it home in time because...

...we enjoyed a Christmas morning filled with gift unwrapping.

And we enjoyed a white Christmas and piles of snow.

It has been a wonderful December break but I'm glad to be back and have so much more to share with you like BIG BIG race plans, a potential giveaway and lots of fitness and creative fun!

HBBC Week 1

Monday:  9.55 Miles
With the start of HBBC I wanted to make sure I'm not just running to simply "get points" because that isn't the point.  I want to focus on being healthy during what can easily be a busy time of year filled with extra indulgences.

Tuesday:  9 Miles
I started my day with some yummy food trying to use up some left overs.
After last nights dinner I knew I had some steamed veggies.  That meant I had enough to add them to my eggs for breakfast and then my salad at lunch.
Sorry I was too hungry to remember to take a photo of the deliciousness.

Wednesday:  9.61 miles with local running friend, Chris.
A nice mix of trails and roads while I explored some new running routes.
Then rounded out my miles on the TM to keep things neat.  10 miles for the day.

Thursday:  8 dark Miles.  Thanksgiving was filled with housecleaning, cooking and family visiting.  Some extra housework pushed my run until after Thanksgiving dinner.  I enjoyed running back on my home turf even in the dark.

Friday:  8 Miles.  More house cleaning clean sweep style, extended family visiting, and family game time.

Saturday:  10 early miles followed by a day of house cleaning.  Isn't a holiday meant for resting?  I missed that part.  I was excited about my run in the early morning because I had gotten a Twilight movie to watch since I would be on the treadmill.  Not so excited when I realized that I had gotten the wrong one.

Sunday:  6 Miles.  Early quick miles, church, a church lunch with a visit from Santa and you guess it, more cleaning before we piled in the truck to return to Virginia.

HBBC
60.55 miles
7 Pts for FV

Hopefully this week I will be able to keep the FV going, add the WOW and maybe not do quite as much cleaning.

How did your first HBBC week go?

Day 700

2012-0408 Day #700
5936.5 miles

There was a bit more nip in the air than I might have wanted.  My legs were a bit more tired from the speed work the day before.  There was way more wind than I wanted to push the jogger through.

But

Having day #700 fall on Easter was clearly destiny.
What better way to celebrate the gifts I have been given of a determined mind, a healthy body and a supportive family than to run through my favorite place on earth with LBM and the Biking Sherpa.

Three Things Thursday - R is for Remember

Our holiday weekend was so packed with fun.  I have to give you the Clifnotes version.
Or you'd probably stop reading half way through.

RAN
I ran.  and ran.  and ran.  and ran a race.
It's a 5k to remember.
details later.

REMEMBERED

We went to Ash lawn Highland which is the home of James Monroe.
We made candles and sweat.
We made lanterns and paper hats and learned to dance and embored a flower and sweat..
We took the tour.
We hugged a tree

We made great memories.
We made soap which we'd need later from all the sweating.

RAIN

We watched fireworks in the rain.

Even wet they were amazing!

We will remember 2011 as the year we watched them in the rain.

Any Better Tricks?

I know ya'all are just dying to read about my action packed weekend.  And to see three hundred random blurry photos of all that fun however I am the sheer definition of whatever it is that lay beyond freaking tired so you will have to hold your horses and wait until tomorrow for me to get all that greatest organized.

In the meantime, I wanted to talked about something I will be dealing with today.
Staying awake

Normally I can suck it up with the best of them.  I have an almost 3 year old who still doesn't always sleep in his own bed or all night long and is having separation issues with my boobs nursing so having to get the kids ready and head off to work each day when I'd really rather not is nothing new.  I used to having getting to do it all by myself 95% of the time with my Hubbs not with us during the week.
But we just came back for the third weekend of not getting home until dawn of the next day much later than we should.  I'm not looking for sympathy here.  I knew our summer activities would be hectic and I am the one who mostly sets the schedule so I made my bed, right?!
What I will struggle with today is the how to stay awake and productive when I put myself in these situations and still have to work outside the home.
If I was a stay-at-home mommy I dream that I could just sleep in and nap as needed.  I know that isn't always the case either!

When I was frantically grabbing food to bring to work this morning I don't leave my office and take a lunch break of course we just returned home so fresh fruit and healthier options were scarce not like I would have grabbed them anyway.  What I did grab was a pbj on toast and a big cup of coffee and I now wish it was an even BIGGER cup of coffee.  I also grabbed a cinnamon crunch bagel from Panera Bread, pine nut hummus and some bread not carrots to eat my hummus with.

So starch, starch and you guessed it more starch!
But that is what I all too often do.  I eat myself awake.

Do you do the same?  Or is it just me?
When you are pressed for time and sleep deprived what tricks do you use to get through your day and be able to stick to your normal schedule?
Because I still have a 6 -7 mile run tonight followed by Insanity.
It's Day #422

I'll leave you with evidence that the way I am feeling today is worth it...
my family.

Off to draw eyes on my eye lids, just incase.

Of Course I Ran

Of course I ran every day over my wonderfully long weekend.  I could show you 28 5 different self portraits from every run but today I thought you might allow me a little mom braggin' enjoy a half dozen few photos of the ever adorable Little Bug Man.

This weekend he "graduated" from pre-pre school.
He shares his days while I am at work with a small group of children all close in age that attend a small private family childcare/preschool group.
Ms. M does a wonderul job teaching the children and modeling behavior that we as a family support.
This is he gradutation ceremony.

LBM helped his girl friend, KC.

Z His cousin, KC and LBM ready to go.

The kids did a great job with their songs.
KC added some extra excitement with a few flashes of her skirt.

LBM was all cheers to have his name called.

His graduation book filled with photos of his days at school.

LBM telling his big sister he is "grad-um-a-eated".

Yeah for LBM!

After the program, Woodman of the World did ID card for all the kids.
The afternoon was a wonderful addition to all the fun activites over our Memorial Day weekend.
It was full of memories both new and old making our weekend a big
Thumbs Up!

LBM gave his mommy's blog a thumbs up
to help me make the Top 25
only today and tomorrow to vote.
Once a day from every device you own and I might just make it!

a little bit tired...

This morning I woke up a little bit tired.

I thought a quick run along the creek would pep me up after all of this...

Crazy cousins

Wiffle ball play offs...

Olympic tramopline tryouts...

World record bubble blowing sessions...

...where's my Army Son helper?  You might ask...

Easter livingroom devastation...

Easter gift assembly...

Easter morning paparazzi detail...

times two!

super early Easter morning breakfast...

Saturday afternoon egg hunts...

aka, how fast can you chase after your little one

Pushing LBM LightYear because he can only go backwards...

Friday egg coloring...

aka I'll be eating hard boiled eggs for a week.
At least that will save me some work because I am tired but after my run just not quite as much!

Busy long weekends are the BEST!

How did you spend yours?
